Christmas travelers are expected to once again converge on Charleston International Airport just weeks after very busy Thanksgiving travel period. A repeat from Thanksgiving – the discount remote parking lot promotion returns for Christmas travelers.
Thanksgiving is the biggest travel time of the year, followed by Christmas. During the week of Christmas 2013, there were 27,917 passengers departing through the Charleston International’s TSA checkpoints.
“We’re ready,” said Paul Campbell, director of airports. “The airport is bustling with construction but passengers won’t have any trouble navigating the airport as they embark on their holiday travel.”
With the airport’s $189 million Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program (TRIP) in full swing, passengers traveling through CHS should plan ahead and arrive early to ensure they make their flight. Leave plenty of time to:
- Navigate traffic coming to the airport
- Park your car
- Check your bags with your respective airline
- Make their way through the airport and go through security.

Passengers can bring wrapped gifts through the security checkpoints, but TSA officers may have to unwrap the gifts if the screeners see something unusual. It is recommended that passengers wrap gifts at their destination or ship them ahead of time to avoid having to open them during the screening process. During the Christmas travel season, the airport will again offer parking discounts to passengers that park in the remote seasonal overflow parking lots
. Enter the remote seasonal overflow lots between Dec. 21-25 and park for four or more days to get one day free. That’s an $8 savings. Park five or more days and get two days free ($16 savings). A free shuttle will be available.
A credit or debit card is required to enter and exit the parking lot. The discount will be applied at check out. Cash cannot be accepted at this self-serve lot.
The seasonal overflow lots are located between the airport loop road and Porsche Boulevard. Free shuttle service between the seasonal lot and the terminal will be provided.
