Burger King, Caviar & Bananas opening Saturday, Sunday

It’s been a long time coming but two new places to eat are opening at Charleston International Airport this weekend.

IMG_6513-cb-opens-(2).jpgCHS is getting all new bars and restaurants, several with Charleston connections, as part of the Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program (TRIP). A handful of other new restaurants and shops will open this fall.
On Saturday, Burger King opens for business followed on Sunday by Caviar & Bananas. They join DeSano Pizza Bakery as the newest airport places to dine. DeSano, a Charleston favorite, opened in May 2015. All three restaurants are located after the security checkpoint, accessible to ticketed passengers.

“Passengers now have some exciting new dining options and this will be the best of two worlds – we have a well-known national brand in Burger King and we have a one of Charleston’s finest dining establishments in Caviar & Bananas,” said Greg Leonard, general manager of Delaware North Companies at CHS.

DNC, a 100-year-old family-owned business based in Buffalo, N.Y., took over hospitality service at CHS in May 2014. Since then DNC has worked closely with the Charleston County Aviation Authority, owner and operator of the airport, to build and bring a totally new lineup of food and beverage vendors to the airport.

“Delaware North has done a great job of ensuring that our passengers have had dining choices during our construction while they worked tirelessly to bring these new brands to the renovated airport,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Aviation Authority. “We look forward to the openings this fall of the Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Grill, the Harvest & Grounds kiosk, and Charleston Beer Works.”

IMG_6511-bk-open.jpgBurger King is a global chain of fast food hamburger restaurants with a headquarters in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The chain began in 1953 as Insta-Burger King. A year later new owners purchased the company and renamed it Burger King. It is among the nation’s best known fast food chain restaurants.

Charleston’s very own Caviar & Bananas is an upscale specialty gourmet market and cafĂ© featuring both ordinary and extraordinary items.  Established in 2008, Caviar & Bananas’ flagship store is in the heart of downtown Charleston at 51 George St. In 2011, a second location at 188 Meeting Street in the City Market Great Hall was opened.

Caviar & Bananas will have quick service location in the central marketplace as well as Gourmet Market kiosk right next door. Passengers can grab their food, sit in the central marketplace and watch activity on the airfield through expansive two-story glass windows.

The Gourmet Market will focus on a specialty retail products as well as food offerings, including assortments to highlight the culinary talents and products based in the Lowcountry along with specialty items from around the world. Visitors can consume products on the go, or take along to give as gifts. The food menu includes healthy, seasonally available ingredients as well as family friendly items and those to suit dietary restrictions and preferences. Other branded merchandise for sale includes tote bags, hats, tee shirts, and more.

The Caviar & Bananas quick service location will feature delicious selections of made-to-order and DYO (Design Your Own) sandwiches, salads, and breakfasts along with baked goods and pastries. The offerings are fresh and made from high quality ingredients in a “scratch” kitchen or not from a bag, bottle, or box. The location will carry vegetarian and vegan options, as well as child-friendly specialties. Customization is one unique attribute that makes Caviar & Bananas different. Travelers can tailor a meal to meet their own taste, desire, or dietary requirements.

At CHS, Caviar & Bananas will offer an espresso/tea bar featuring coffees roasted by master roaster, King Bean Roasters of Charleston, as well as an organic tea selection. Other beverages will include half and single serve bottles of wine, and individual locally bottled beers.
