New destinations, more ways to fly this spring, summer

Here’s a recap of recent air service changes taking place at Charleston International Airport for spring and summer 2017.
In January, Southwest Airlines announced it would bring back service to Denver (DEN). This year’s seasonal service will be seven days a week, starting June 4. Last summer’s nonstop service to Denver was offered once a week.
Also in January, Southwest announced new service -- weekend flights to St. Louis (STL). Today, the airline said it’s increasing nonstop flights to St. Louis to seven days a week. The service begins June 5 and continues through Aug. 5. Starting Aug. 6, flights to STL will be offered on weekends only through Sept. 30.

Southwest’ new destinations, are in addition to spring and summer service changes by other airlines at CHS. Below is a summary of those other service changes. Spring and summer are high travel seasons.
American Airlines: Starting April 4 and continuing through summer, American flies fly four times a day (increase from two flights) to Philadelphia (PHL), and fly three times a day (increase of one flight) to Miami (MIA). Plus, is using larger aircraft (more seats = more people) for its regular daily nonstop flights to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and two of its regular daily flights to Charlotte (CLT). American flies twice a day to Dallas-Fort Worth and nine times a day to Charlotte.
American is also flying larger aircraft for some flights to DFW and CLT. The switch to mainline MD-80s means American can accommodate 280 travelers per flight to DFW, up from previous aircraft that seat 152. Seating capacity on two daily flights to Charlotte increases from 76 to 130 people per aircraft.
United Airlines: Added one additional daily nonstop flight to Houston and has upgraded to larger, mainline aircraft for service to Chicago and to Newark.
JetBlue Airways: Upgraded to the A320, a larger aircraft that seats 150 people, for its daily nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale.
In addition to the airlines above, CHS is also served by Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines.
