Southwest Airline’s weekly service between Charleston and Denver takes flight for the first time on Saturday, June 11.
The route between Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Denver International Airport (DEN) was announced in late 2015. It is the first-ever nonstop connection between the Mile High City and the Holy City.
“We’re thrilled with Southwest’s addition of weekly service to Denver,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “The Denver route not only gives residents of the Lowcountry another connection to the western United States, it opens up a world of travel possibilities.”
Southwest’s CHS to DEN schedule beginning June 11 will be:
- Depart Charleston at 3:45 p.m. Arrive in Denver at 5:20 p.m.
- Depart Denver at 10:55 a.m. Arrive in Charleston at 4:15 p.m.
Denver and Charleston have many things in common: a thriving cultural scene, beautiful natural scenery, stunning architecture and award-winning dining. Denver is home to several industries that also have strong or growing economic development footholds in the Lowcountry, including aerospace, aviation, beverage production (craft beer industry) and information technology.
Helen Hill, CEO of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, said the hospitality industry is responding to this new service.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to start this weekly service to Denver and prove to Southwest Airlines that our community as well as our visitors has an appetite for daily service in this important market,” Hill said. “We are pleased, but not surprised, that advance bookings on the trial segment are brisk. Just one year ago, we were in a similar market trial with Southwest in the Charleston to Dallas Love Field segment and today that flight operates successfully on a daily basis.”
