“Southwest told us how pleased they were with the Denver route last summer. New destinations in similar markets started as seasonal offerings,” Campbell said. “We’d love to have Southwest make Denver and St. Louis permanent daily nonstop flights to those great cities.”
Southwest at CHS began flying weekly to Denver in June of 2016. This summer, the airline will fly to Denver seven days a week. The nonstop flight to St. Louis will be on Saturdays and Sundays. Both are schedule to run until Aug. 14.
"During a unique period in which Southwest Airlines has more opportunity for success than aircraft to fill its needs, we are encouraged that Southwest has included Charleston in a significant summer expansion," said Helen Turner Hill, CEO of the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. "This is a company that refreshingly continues to deliver on its promise to meet our community's needs."
Southwest Airlines came to Charleston International Airport in 2011. The airline already provides nonstop flights to Chicago Midway, Baltimore, Houston and Nashville.
