THINGS ARE COOKING AT CHARLESTON INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

3/28/2019

A new kitchen is part of a bigger plan to put Charleston International Airport on the map globally. The In-Flight Kitchen and Catering facility opens Monday, April 1, 2019.

CCAA officials will participate in a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new “CHS In-Flight Kitchen” located at 5551 Porsche Blvd.   The kitchen, which is just under 15,000 square feet, was built in a warehouse formerly occupied by Porsche Automotive, as a maintenance and repair shop, hence the street name on which its located.

The state-of-the art kitchen is expected to cost approximately $8 million according to airport Executive Director & CEO Paul Campbell.  “The investment does not compare to the economic impact that this kitchen will bring to our community and state.”

Work on this kitchen began in December, 2018 and was completed in four months. “The CHS-In Flight Kitchen was a remarkable construction achievement that was the result of the extensive effort and dedication by the CCAA staff together with a local team that includes ADC Engineering, Hill Construction and LS3P Architectural Firm” said Hernan E. Peña, Deputy Executive Director & COO.

British Airways will be the first airline to use the new kitchen facility for the April 4th inaugural flight from Charleston to London.

This kitchen will not only create future opportunities for other international carries but will accommodate our existing partners long haul flights as well. “The doors this kitchen will open for our community and state are incredible,” said Campbell. “And I look forward to sharing our first-class airport and award winning city with all our new international guests”.
