Passengers navigating CHS have weathered detours, dust, noise and ever changing routes to and from their flight. Some of that is beginning to change.
One of the more noticeable changes takes place Nov. 21. That’s when the new exit lane from all airline gates opens. All arriving passengers will exit the secure side of the airport in the Central Hall under the dome. This is also were guests waiting to pick up arriving passengers will gather to wait.
Parts of the Central Hall, in particular the new retail stores, will remain under construction. Behind the secure glass wall guests will see construction walls. But by spring 2016 the temporary walls will come down and there will be clear views from the front of the terminal through to the airfield.
Also on Saturday:
- The third baggage claim carousel will reopen
- All Concourse B gates and boarding lounges will open
Construction will continue until spring 2016 on Concourse A and on the food court after security. In addition, some work will continue in the opened areas for the next several weeks.
“We expect that by the end of the year most of the construction will be complete in ticketing, baggage claim and the public side of the Central Hall,” said Paul Campbell, executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “That’s very exciting for everyone that works at the airport and for our passengers.”
