The Charleston County Aviation Authority and the terminal renovation at Charleston International Airport were named the Beacon Award winner by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Sept. 15 during the 2016 annual Honors Night awards ceremony. The event at the Charleston Marriott Hotel was attended by more than 250 business and community leaders.
The evening celebrated individuals and companies who have provided exceptional advancements to the Charleston region. The annual honors were presented in six award categories: The Trailblazer, The Beacon, The Rockstar, The Pillar, The Milestone, and The One to Watch.
“Being nominated for an Honors Night award is a powerful testament to a business’s brand and impact on the region, as nominations are made by Chamber members. This year’s finalists join an impressive group of businesses, each making an impact in our region,” said Bryan Derreberry, president and CEO of the Charleston Metro Chamber.
The Beacon Award recognizes a project or structure that elevates aesthetics and improves quality of life for the region. The Charleston International Airport renovation began in 2012 and has transformed and expanded the facility into a modern airport ready to handle the 3.4 million plus passengers a year that pass through its doors. The Aviation Authority is proud to have been nominated alongside Riverfront Park at North Charleston and the Martha & John M. Rivers Performance Hall at the Gaillard Center in the Beacon Award category and with the other chamber aware finalists.
“It’s an honor to be among so many other great finalists being recognized for advancing the Charleston region,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., executive director and CEO of the Aviation Authority. “While it’s been a lot of hard work, the staff and many others at the Charleston International Airport have done a great job of guiding the terminal renovation. We are proud to have such a great facility for this community and for all the visitors to Charleston.”
