The Eddie Bauer brand exemplifies the outdoor way of life. It makes sense that the casual clothing retailer sets up shop in the Lowcountry – known for its waterways, the salt air, beautiful beaches, coastal wildlife and meandering marshes.
An Eddie Bauer store is among the new retail outlets that The Hudson Group, the CHS retail concessionaire, will open as part of the $189 million Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program (TRIP). We take a look at the history of Eddie Bauer in the first in a series stories about the new businesses that will create a great passenger experience at CHS. The storewill be located after security near the airportfood court.
Eddie Bauer’s life and love of the outdoors and the business he created have been offering the goods and service to the public since 1920 with the first store opening as Eddie Bauer’s Sport Shop in Seattle. Two years later, he established the Eddie Bauer Creed and Guarantee that is still the foundation for the company’s customer service today.
As the decades passed and the business grew, his creativity with apparel grew as well with the “Skyliner” the first quilted goose down jacket in North America which became patented in 1940. This innovation in revolutionized outerwear as the down jacket has become a classic American sportswear piece. In 1942, the mail order division of Eddie Bauer began operations, bringing Eddie Bauer to across the US.
Through the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s Eddie Bauer continued to grow and even after he sold his interest in the company in 1968, Eddie Bauer himself kept busy fishing, hunting and enjoying the outside of course wearing and using the gear he created. Eddie Bauer may have passed on in 1986, but his spirit and legacy live on. The company continues to build on the foundation he built almost 100 years ago with a great love of the outdoors and trusted quality.

The CHS Eddie Bauer store will be one of its approximately 370 stores located throughout the U.S. and Canada. Hudson Group currently operates shops in the Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and St. Louis International Airport (STL) with a new store coming to Denver International Airport (DEN) in the near future.
