Two more airlines are on the move at Charleston International Airport.

American-US-Air-tix-counter-web.jpgOn Tuesday, US Airways and American Airlines will open new ticket counters on the west side of the CHS Ticketing Hall. The move from old counters built in the 1980s to new, modern ticket counters will transform the passenger check-in experience.

“We’re pleased to offer our customers flying American or US Airways a more convenient check-in experience in our new side-by-side location,” said Corey Winer, American Airlines general manager in Charleston. "We're also pleased to offer them first class service on larger regional jets to our Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami hubs starting May 8."

The new ticketing area features overhead monitors with airline and flight information, low-rise quartz countertops that are easily accessible to those in wheelchairs, blade lighting and expansive windows for a brighter look. Architectural details such as the ticket counter trellises and the color pallet are tied to Charleston history and architecture.

“The airlines and our other tenants have been great partners throughout construction,” said Paul G. Campbell Jr., director of airports for the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “We know it has not been easy to be in the middle of a construction zone, but we know the airlines are excited to see this transformation and make this move.”

In December 2014, JetBlue and United Airlines occupied their new ticket counters. In February and March the newest air service providers Porter Airlines and Silver Airways moved in. This July, Southwest Airlines will move, followed by Delta Air Lines in September.

The Ticketing Hall renovation is part of the $189 million Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program. TRIP construction began in 2012. Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2015. The Concourse A clerestory will be completed in January 2016.

Once construction is done, the airport terminal will have grown from approximately 330,000 square feet to 429,000 square feet.
