JetBlue today announced it will offer daily nonstop service between Charleston International Airport (CHS) and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL) starting Nov. 19.

JetBlue came to CHS in February 2013. The addition of nonstop service between Charleston and Fort Lauderdale brings CHS’ destinations to 24 airports in 19 cities in the United States and Canada.

“We are proud that our airline partnership with JetBlue is resulting in a new destination connecting the Lowcountry with Ft. Lauderdale,” said Paul Campbell, executive director and chief executive officer of the Charleston County Aviation Authority. “Our customers will be able to enjoy the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and we can bring those folks to our great city.”

The short 105-minute flight between Charleston and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood will operate with JetBlue’s E190 aircraft, which comfortably seats 100 passengers and boasts window or aisle seats for everyone aboard. JetBlue’s award-winning service features the most legroom in coach*, unlimited name brand snacks and soft drinks, and more than 100 channels of DIRECTV® programming delivered directly to each passenger’s seat.

JetBlue once again steps up to the plate with a convenient and comfortable way for visitors and locals alike to travel to South Florida and beyond.”

JetBlue is Fort Lauderdale’s largest airline and currently offers 37 nonstop destinations, with up to 85 daily flights from Fort Lauderdale with a goal to increase operations to 100 daily flights by 2017.

JetBlue also continues to expand its service to the Caribbean and Latin America. The airline recently announced it will begin direct charter flights to Havana, Cuba, from New York, making it the first major American carrier to offer regular flights to the island following President Obama's decision in December 2014 to ease the travel and business embargo, according to Reuters.

“Charleston’s network of nonstop flight cities continues to grow, and the local hospitality industry welcomes JetBlue’s new service to an important gateway region like Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood,” says Dan Blumenstock, chairman of the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The addition of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood becomes Charleston’s fourth nonstop market to Florida and the fifth recently added nonstop service airport, which is incredibly exciting news! There has never been a better time to pack light and take a short flight to Charleston, which was just named the No. 1 Best U.S. City by readers of Travel + Leisure for the third year running.”

For Charleston’s outbound passengers, a variety of destinations in the Caribbean as well as Central and South America will be only one stop away thanks to the connectivity offered by JetBlue via Fort Lauderdale.

“Our partnership with JetBlue continues to be mutually beneficial and exceed our expectations,” said Fernando Harb, vice president tourism sales, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau. “With the addition of direct service from Charleston, SC, we see great growth potential for meetings and conventions as well as business travel segments.”
