Plan ahead for a hassle-free holiday travel

Christmas and the New Year are both festive and busy travel times. Here are some helpful hints and resources to make your passenger experience with Charleston International Airport one of your new favorite things about the holiday season.
 
During the 17 days leading up to Christmas 2015 and ending on Jan. 4, 2016 more than 117,000 people flew in and out of Charleston International Airport. The busiest travel days were the Saturday and Wednesday before Christmas, which fell on a Friday last year. Christmas falls on a Sunday this year. The New Year holiday falls on a Saturday and Sunday this year.
 
Holidays are always busy at the airport. Here are some tips for hassle-free travel.
 
Day of Travel
The airport and the parking lots will be congested so passengers should plan ahead and leave plenty of time to:
  • Navigate through traffic on the way to the airport.
  • Check in with the airlines.
  • Go through security.
  • Board your flight without being rushed.
Prepare for lines
It’s always a good idea to check your flight status with your airline before coming to the airport. If there is inclement weather in Charleston, at your destination or nearly anywhere in the country, your flight could be delayed or cancelled. Pack your patience and prepare for longer than usual lines.  
 
Presents
Wrapped gifts are not prohibited by the Transportation Security Administration. However, if packages prompt an alarm during a security screening TSA agents may have to open it. Passengers are encouraged to ship gifts ahead of time or wrap presents once arriving at your designation. Parking
If parking at the airport, remember spaces fill fast during the holidays so get here early. The seasonal remote parking is opened when both the surface lot and parking deck are full. When the remote parking is in use, shuttle service to the terminal is available from that lot. Payment in the remote lot is by credit or debit card only. No cash.
