United Airlines moving to Concourse B8 and B10

4/20/2015

United Airlines is moving from its long-time home on Concourse A to make way for renovations that are part of the $189 million Terminal Redevelopment and Improvement Program (TRIP).

b-homepage-2.jpgUnited will open at gates B8 and B10 on Tuesday morning (April 21, 2015). When exiting the new consolidated TSA screening checkpoint, passengers will turn left, rather than right, and walk to Concourse B.

United, which has been at CHS since May 2004, is the fourth airline to move to the new addition on Concourse B. American Airlines, US Airways and Southwest Airlines moved last week. Delta Air Lines will remain on Concourse A.

The renovation at Concourse A will resemble the new construction on Concourse B with a boarding lounge that is open and bright because of expansive floor- to-ceiling windows and a 6-foot clerestory that floods the room with light. The white d├ęcor – from the terrazzo floors to bar- and banquette-style seating – gives the room a fresh, open feel that passengers will enjoy as they wait to board their flights.

Included in the Concourse A renovation will be the installation of five new jet bridges, seating expansion to accommodate nearly 500 people and the addition of Charleston Beer Works, an in-the-round brewpub and sports bar that is also located in downtown Charleston. Work to renovate the old portion of Concourse B will occur simultaneously.

With the opening of the consolidated TSA screening area, passengers are now able to move freely between the concourses without having to go through security again. As more restaurants and retail stores open, passengers will have many more options to choose from while waiting for their flights.

When the terminal redevelopment is complete at the end of 2015, CHS will have a total of 15 airline gates to serve a growing number of fliers. The Charleston County Aviation Authority, which owns and operates CHS, will also modernize its baggage handling systems and build all new airline ticket counters. Already complete is a Central Energy Plant, new ramp space for overnight parking space of aircraft, three new baggage carousels, a Rental Car Pavilion and all new utilities.
