Traditional and original good time groove music. The Hungry Monks are centered around the creative talents of Hazel Ketchum on guitar, percussion and vocals, and John Holenko on mandolin, guitar and vocals.

The Hungry Monks play clubs, concerts, festivals and contra dances. They have played the Savannah Folk Festival, Piccolo Spoleto, Charleston Pour House, and the Great Lakes Guitar Festival. In addition to performing they teach music, give workshops, write music, record, build things and generally make this world a better place.

John and Hazel own and operate Hungry Monk Music where people go to study music, jam and perform. Hazel curates the popular series at The Charleston Music Hall featuring local women singers called Women &. In addition Hazel performs with The Harrows, Corde Cantanti, Columbia Baroque and the Marshgrass Mamas.  John plays guitar and mandolin for many Charleston groups including Mr. Charlie, Red Cedar Review, Grateful Dawg, The Charleston Symphony Orchestra, The North Charleston Pops, The Spoleto Opera Orchestra and has performed in the pit orchestra for many musicals including Avenue Q, The Wiz, 9 to 5, Carol King and Chicago. John also directs the Charleston Mandolin Orchestra.
