Two Individuals Apprehended After Security Breach at Charleston International Airport

Charleston, S.C. – Earlier today, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), in coordination with the Charleston Regional Aviation Authority Police and State Regulatory Police, were conducting a scheduled safety and compliance operation involving Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) at Charleston International Airport when an unrelated security incident occurred.

At approximately 11 a.m., airport dispatch received a report that two male subjects from a nearby construction site were seen running toward the airport perimeter fence. The individuals breached a secured airport fence, crossed the apron area, and fled into a nearby wooded area.

Charleston Regional Aviation Authority Police immediately established a perimeter along South Aviation Avenue. Both subjects were located and apprehended in the wood line shortly thereafter without further incident. They were arrested and charged with trespassing after warning.

There is no current threat to public safety, and normal airport operations were not affected during the incident.

Contrary to some public speculation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was not involved in this incident and has not conducted any operations at Charleston International Airport related to this matter.

The Charleston Regional Aviation Authority Police, in partnership with federal and state law enforcement, remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all airport personnel, passengers, and facilities.
